Does microblading hurt?

This is hands down, the most frequently asked question! I’ll be completely honest - it can be slightly nippy. BUT stay with me.. It all depends on the individual. 90% of my clients are surprised at how comfortable microblading actually is. In fact, a lot of people say the plucking I do in the beginning is worse than the actual microblading!

I’ll break down the steps I take throughout your appointment to ensure it’s as comfortable as possible for you..

  1. I apply a topical numbing cream half an hour prior to the treatment - this helps in minimising pain for the initial pass of hair strokes/shading depending on your style of choice.

  2. I then apply topical numbing gel (this stuff is absolutely magical - I LOVE it) - this sinks into the incisions already made in the first pass, numbing it completely - most people react with: “are you even doing anything?” once this gel has been applied!

  3. If I have to go over any more (I usually have to go over the strokes 2-3 times), I will always apply another layer of numbing gel to aid in making sure it’s totally comfortable.

To describe the pain, I’d say it’s like a burning/scratching type feeling. Most like a tattoo if I was to say it’s like anything else, but I would definitely say the pain from a tattoo is worse. The “painful” part is only until I put the second magical numbing gel on in any case, so it really doesn’t last long at all!

Post treatment, redness and a tight feeling is normal but it does die down fairly quickly, it will only last for a day or two.

All in all, it’s really quite a comfortable treatment compared with others, you can totally do it!!
